Oral care during pregnancy

It's a wonderful, beautiful and joyous momemnt to be pregnant. Congratulations. And while having to take note of various issues about being pregnant, the dos and the don'ts, we are sorry that we got to put forth another - pregnancy oral care. However, it's for your own and baby's well being. Hence, it definitely requires a small effort to learn about it.

As we all already know, pregnancy can make a woman feeling very sick or nothing at all. This is due to the hormonal changes occur in our body that alters its normal behavior. This is the reason why it’s important pregnant women to take good care of our teeth and gums. The hormonal changes increase the risk of developing gum disease because it makes gums more sensitive, making gingivitis easier to develop, and this can affect the health of the baby. Pregnancy gingivitis, identified by and uncomfortable swelling, bleeding, redness or softness in the gum tissue.

Fret not actually. We have some tips to prevent that.

And it is best that good practice starts way before pregnancy. However if you are pregnant, just start paying some attention to your oral health.

Before Pregnancy
Visit your dentist regularly at least every 6 months to have teeth professionally cleaned and gum tissue carefully examined. If there is any oral condition, it is better to get it treated in advance of your pregnancy.

During Pregnancy
1. Avoid sweet food as much as possible. The more sweets you eat, the greater chance you have of developing tooth decay. Moreover, the food you eat influences your child's food preferences. Hence, no matter how great your sweet craving is, try to control it. And it good to control especially pregnant ladies need to be wary of gestational diabetes.

2. Avoid dental treatments at specific times during pregnancy. For precaution, during the first trimester and second half of the third trimester dental treatments should be avoided as much as possible. You need to let your dentist know you are pregnant during your routine dental care and checkups. Avoid dental X-rays during pregnancy.

3. Always eat a healthy, balanced diet. This is very important because your baby's first teeth begin to develop around after the third month of your pregnancy.

4. If morning sickness is keeping you from brushing your teeth, change to a bland-tasting toothpaste during pregnancy. Rinse your mouth out with water or a mouth rinse if you suffer from morning sickness and have bouts of frequent vomiting.

5. Pay special attention to any changes in your gums during pregnancy. Visit your dentist right away if there's any discomfort.

6. Maintain a good oral hygiene to prevent or reduce oral health related problems.

The benefits of Baby Massage. Every baby likes it.

Having my second baby, I started to massage her often. After bath, and before going to sleep. I do seriously recommend all parents do that too. It sure soothes the baby and creates a better bond. Not forgetting being too sticky to me! Oops. That's a positivity, I consider. Massages helps her calm down and get rid of the colic in her. If you need help, you can approach the post-partum lady to teach you on simple baby massage after she massages you.

Here's an article I have written years back and I am putting it up here to share.

~Do you know that babies benefit in the same ways as adults from gentle relaxing massage. Not only will your baby feel more relaxed while receiving massage, but both Mum & Dad will feel rewarded as well.

Gentle touch can be started as early as day one of your baby's life and has shown to have the following benefits:

• Better sleep patterns for babies (and therefore for mum & dad too)
• Stronger immune systems
• Enhanced bonding between the baby and parents
• Enhanced infant learning
• Better weight gain and growth (especially for preterm infants)
• Dad's feel more confident as caregivers and nurturers

Infant massage is a type of complementary and alternative treatment that uses massage therapy for human infants. This therapy is practiced globally, and has been increasingly used in Western countries as a treatment for infants, and nowadays for Asian babies. Research in pre-term infants and low birth weight infants have shown some signs it might improve weight. Research into the effectiveness in other infants has found some tentative evidence from a small number of studies for some benefits such as sleeping and crying in infants, though the evidence is not strong enough to recommend universally.

1. Choose a moment in which you and your child are relaxed and calm. A half hour after the baby has eaten is recommended.

2. Be sure that the room temperature is warm. Undress the baby completely, if the weather is cold or humid, cover the areas of the baby's body that are not being massaged.

3. Put the baby on a soft surface so your baby will feel comfortable and secure. Keep some little pillows handy.

4. It is a good idea to put some cream on your hands and rub them together so they will be soft and warm.

5. Basically the massage flows from the head to the toes. With soft and gentle touches you will work on the head, face, shoulders, arms, chest, stomach and legs. While you massage your baby look tenderly at him or her. Doing this you stimulate all the senses of the baby and establish a more intense visual and tactile communication. Feel free to speak to your baby and do not inhibit yourself.

6. Remember that your touches should be tender do not make mechanic motions. Try to be flexible by not keeping a rigid routine. If the baby wants to change position let them do so. Do not force your baby to keep a position; you can go back to these areas later on.

7. In the small areas use your fingertips. In bigger areas use the palm of your hand. "Little strokes" mean to touch your baby's skin gently and "massage" is to softly move the muscles under the skin.

Remedies for common baby issues

Being a new parent is not easy and obviously, a lot of people are fighting to give you advice here and there; and mothers and fathers are googling how to deal with some common situations. And is it a must that every issue need to head to the doctor immediately?

Yes. I would say Yes! If you are really unsure, going to the doctor is the best approach each parent should take.

Here's however a list that one can adopt in mild situations. Please always consult a professional if you do not know what to do.

Jaundice
The yellowish tint in newborn’s skin which appears first on the face then also on the rest of the body is jaundice. It develops when the liver is unable to flush out bilirubin (a waste product from the normal breakdown of red blood cells). Many babies have a case of “early jaundice” which begins on the second or third day of life and starts disappearing when the baby is 7-10 days old.

Remedy : Breastfeed your baby as often as possible as most jaundice is caused by not taking in milk especially when milk does not come in during the first few days after birth.

Doctor Time : If the situation does not improve, doctors may recommend exposing your baby to special florescent-type lights, a kind of phototherapy or sunbathing at home. If there is a fever, see a doctor immediately.

Cradle Crap
Cradle crap appears as yellowish, greasy and scaly patches of skin most commonly on the baby’s scalp, but it also can be found on the face and body. It is caused by a build up of oil as well as the shedding of skin cells. It usually disappears during the baby's first year. It is harmless but the itch can cause irritation to the babies.

Remedy : It can be removed by rubbing olive oil gently into the affected areas and letting it sit for 10 minutes and use a baby comb to brush gently on the scalp before washing it off with a mild baby shampoo.

Doctor Time : If the area shows redness and signs of infection and/or there is a bad smell, these can cause your baby great discomfort. The doctor can prescribe lotion to sooth the irritation.

Colic

Colic is the name given to long, unexplained bouts of crying in a baby and cannot be soothed by burping - usually beginning between the second and third weeks and disappearing by four months. No one can really explain what causes colic.

Remedy : Helping a baby with colic is primarily a matter of experimenting. Different babies are comforted by different measures. You can try and see which works best.
1. If you are bottle-feeding, try to burp your baby in between and after her feeds.
2. You can also used anti-colic teat that will reduce the air intake while bottle feeding.
3. Carry, cuddle and gently rock your baby when she cries. A soothing rhythmic movement helps a baby relax and go to sleep.
4. Massage her tummy.
5. Go on a car ride.
6. Some babies are less colicky when taken off cow’s milk formula. A change to other formula for two milks is worthwhile trying if all else fails.

Doctor time : Consult a doctor if colic is recurrent or when your baby has a fever, recurrent vomiting or diarrhoea.

Fever
Fever occurs when body temperature rises above its normal level and this might varies by individual and time of day. A fever is a sign of the immune system at work and usually indicates an infection.

Remedy / Doctor Time : See a doctor to be examined. Give plenty of fluids. You can also put a cooling pad on the baby’s forehead to lower the temperature.

Cold & Flu
When your child has a cold, most likely he will have watery eyes, sneezing, coughing or running nose.
Remedy : You can relieve their stuffy nose by using saline nasal drops or spray. Offer plenty of fluids to keep his throat and mucus membranes moist. Check with doctors before any medication.

Doctor Time : It is best to see a doctor whenever your child catches a cold or flu so that doctor can diagnose and prescribe the appropriate medication.

Constipation
Parents should look out for constipation symptoms when your babies have a hard abdomen and painful passing of stools that are hard and dry. Normally, when passing motion, baby will cry. Constipation is common when your baby is first introduced to solids. For some babies, it’s also common that they don’t pass motion every day. As long as the stools are relatively soft and there doesn’t seem to be discomfort, parents might not be too worried.

Remedy : To relieve constipation, increase baby’s fluid intake. Parents can also explore massaging the stomach area but bear in mind not to use too much force.

Doctor Time : If the problem still persists, consult a doctor.

Diarrhoea
The symptoms of diarrhoea are frequent bowel movements and the stools appear watery, loose and smelly. Look out for stools that contain mucus and are a different colour from normal stools. As diarrhoea depleted the body of fluids, it can lead to dehydration. Parents should look out for warning signs such as crying without tears, lack of urination, a sunken fontanel and loss of skin elasticity. For newborns, passing of frequent loose stools 6-8 times a day is normal in the first week of life and usually occurs during or after each feeding. You need not be too alarmed.

Remedy : Ensure proper hygiene and give plenty of fluids.

Doctor Time : If diarrhoea persists and accompanied by vomiting, see a doctor immediately.

Diaper Rash
Diaper rash happens when babies’ skin is prolongly exposed to urine and faeces. In the early phase, the irritated skin turns red. And if not treated, bacteria and yeast fungus will invade the inflamed skin. Red spotty areas, some of which may contain pus will appear and spread to over surrounding areas. The rash patches normally appear on the baby’s bottom and groin area.

Remedy:
1. Expose your baby’s bottom to air as much as possible.
2. Change the diaper more frequently. Even the baby can sleep through the night, it is recommendable to change the diaper every 3-4 hours. Do these till the rash clear up.
3. Clean the diaper area gently and do not use strong soup. 4. Use a diaper rash cream to apply on the affected areas.

Prevention : Always change the diaper frequently. Remember to wipe clean the bottom and let it dry before putting on a fresh diaper. You can also apply a barrier cream after each nappy change.

Doctor time : If the problem still persists and is causing the baby great discomfort, consult a doctor.

Splitting up and Burping
It is normal for babies to spit up a small amount of milk especially after feeds or between feeds. It is due to excessive slackness in the muscle ring located where the feeding tube (oesophagus) and the stomach meets. If your baby is happy and putting on weight, you should not be worried.

Prevention : Avoid rocking your baby just after a feed.

Dealing with In-laws | handling their views and opinions

Do you know that about 60% of the women hate their in-laws, especially mother-in-laws? Well, think that figure would not surprise you. Rather you might think that’s too low, right? How about the rest of the 40%. Well, it does not reflect that these 15% likes their in-laws. It just shows that they don’t hate them. That’s all. But it is not about hating. It's more about how to handle a relationship.

With so much commotion especially between both mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws, how can we overcome such issues especially the person in between two of you is your husband and her son after all.

We have classified in-laws into 5 groups of personalities. Most of them fall into one but we can be certain that some actually have all the traits of each group. That’s a horror! Well, one day, you will become a mother-in-law too….. so be nice about it…… and not take it so seriously.

1. Controlling In-laws

They just want to control your hubby’s life and thus create the impression that they are controlling you as well. To put in nicer words, they are too used to running your hubby’s life. However, do not think that they are out to make your life miserable; while some really do if they have objected to your marriage in the first place.

They need to have these controls so that they feel needed. After all, they gave birth to your hubby and after marriage, they still need that control as parents. If they lost that control, they will do any stunts either through threats, manipulation or even guilt-peddling to regain that control they need.

Solution :
Never talk bad about his parents especially your hubby is so used to his parents bidding, meaning he let his parents control him. Now that he forms his own family, try to understand that it might also be a huge change to his lifestyle. However, you can approach this situation by helping him understand that his parents’ behavior is making you and your marriage suffer.

Do not over-react or nag but assure him that you are always with him. Ask him why he does not want to stand up for himself and his family, especially when there are additions to your family.

If you have a baby at home:
If your methods in raising up a child are completely different from his parents, do not nag. At the very least, they brought up your husband that way. There must be some ways that you can adopt even in this present era. You need to get your husband to stand by you and explain to his parents why you are adopting a different teaching methodology.

2. "Close to You" In-laws

Your in-laws treated you as their own daughter. However, they do not really understand why you need your privacy. They will expect that everything is on the family mode, rather than the marriage mode. This can make you frustrated by being on 24/7 standby as you must entertain them.

Solution :
Let your hubby knows about this else he may think that you have enjoyed spending every minute with his parents all this while. You might consider setting a family routine so that he will not neglect his parents too.

If you have these in-laws, consider yourself lucky as they are relatively harmless and easier to convey your sentiments. However, be prepared to make compromises sometimes.

If you have a baby at home:
They might popped by your house every other day to see the baby as one of the excuses. That explains their overly-frequent visits. Simply let them know that you need some privacy and rest. At the same time, consider putting more effort in bringing your child to visit them.

3. Chaotic In-laws

As the name implies, it’s really chaotic. Somehow, the lives of your in-laws are too ‘messy’ in the sense that they might be unhappy about their own lives that they can stir up lots of problems in their lives and others. In other words, they do not care about your marriage life. They just want someone to focus on themselves.  In fact, they might be the problem themselves.

Once they have a problem, they will turn up to you and your hubby for aid. Suddenly, you will feel like your husband and yourself have become superman and wonder woman. You just need to solve and fix the problems but these problems will never end.

Solution:
Since it’s a never-ending journey with all these problems, you might just have to say NO! Though we need to be filial to our parents but we cannot be the ones to be responsible for their actions. If it’s a one-time situation, all right, go ahead and help. If it’s not, just reject them. It might make you look bad as a daughter-in-law but in the first place your in-laws might not be interested in you either.

Your hubby might need to step in and let his parents know that his parents need to take back their responsibilities for their lives. If it’s too hard to approach this nasty situation, consider a counselor.

If you have a baby at home:
Be careful of such in-laws especially if you have a child at home. They might be teaching your child certain bad habits alongside the growing process. We do not want the child to pick up skills in creating problems. Hence, as parents, you need to be firm in rejecting your problematic in-laws.

4. Rejecting In-laws

We are sad to tell you but your in-laws have never liked you. Hence, they do not care about anything about you. They might do all sorts of things to ostracize you and drove you to the end of your marriage. All these things happened due to several reasons which are hard to solve – religion, race, social differences and even personality.

Despite all the efforts you have tried to get closer to your in-laws, it still seems that the ice is still frozen and the rock is still as hard.

Solution:
Accept that there’s nothing much you can do now or even in the future. They have already dislike you before they have met you. They know of your presence but not you as a person. Leave them alone. Concentrate on your marriage and own family instead.

If you have a baby at home:
Just leave them alone. Focus your love and energy on your hubby and children instead.

5. Bad-Mouth In-laws

Whatever you said, they must scrutinize it, be it your views, feelings or what you have done. Even if you do certain things perfectly, they are out to criticize it.

The reason that they have to do these – to put you down and let you know who the boss is. They will keep nagging, giving you unwanted advice and picked on you or the things you did. The only thing you can do is to bite your tongue so that they have lesser things to criticize.

Solution:
Always resist the impulse to attack back, argue or go silent. It is because you might still be blamed for either being disrespectful or for doing nothing at all. Rather, if the criticism is harmless, treat it as a humor and let it pass. Alternatively, you can use a humorous strategy to bring your message across.

If you are really feeling super angry, try to delay your reaction and gain over your emotions. Use a positioning statement like ‘I know you have your own methods of doing things. I have my own method of doing things too and I should be the one to decide.’

If you have a baby at home:
Do not quarrel with your in-laws as your children are watching it. Rather be calm and bring your point over.

We hope you have fun reading this post and we like to share what we always do... have an easy heart. Do not take it so seriously.

Pregnancy is not necessarily becoming FAT if you know how to care for yourself

What most women fear…. Being FAT! However, it’s really not posible not to put on weight during pregnancy. Why are some mothers so thin with only a tummy protruding out but some blow up like a balloon everywhere?

By the end of your pregnancy, your extra weight gain should be around 10 to 12kg to be normal.
For practical reasons the pregnancy is divided into three periods:

  1. the first period runs from week 0 to 12 where it is normal to gain 1 to 2kg
  2. the second period runs from weeks 12 to 28 in which it is normal to gain 300 to 400g a week.
  3. the third period runs from weeks 28 to 40 and it is normal to gain 1 to 3kg a month.

It is not necessary to be obsessive about your weight during pregnancy. However, excess weight gain is probably best avoided since most women will want to return to the same dress size within a few months of delivery.

Where do the extra kilos come from?
A baby weighs approximately 2.5 - 3.5kg before birth
The uterus grows to approximately 900g
The placenta weighs approximately 650g
The amniotic fluid weighs approximately 800g
The woman's breasts grow by approximately 400g
The weight of the extra blood is approximately 1.25kg
Water retained in the body tissues weighs approximately 2kg
The layer of fat beneath the skin weighs approximately 1.7kg

How to prevent getting putting on the unnecessary fats and your unborn baby gets the essential food and grows well? You will have to decide for yourself and get your gynae's recommendations.

Eat for 2? True or False?
It is not true that a pregnant woman should eat for two people. What is true is that during a pregnancy, a woman has to provide good nutrition for two individuals – herself and the baby. The growing baby gets all its nourishment from its mother through the umbilical cord, so diet is very important during this stage. If the mother is lacking in any vitamins and nutrients her baby might lack them too.

If a woman has had trouble keeping her weight up or down before the pregnancy, she should make a nutritional plan with the help of her gynae.

How much energy does a woman need during pregnancy?
  • A woman who is not pregnant needs approximately 2100 calories per day.
  • A pregnant woman needs approximately 2500 calories per day.
  • A breastfeeding woman needs approximately 3000 calories per day.

What sort of food should pregnant women eat?

- A well-balanced diet should contain something from all the food groups: dairy products, fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, eggs, fat and carbohydrates. A pregnant woman needs to eat something from all these food groups every day in order to get the proper amounts of energy.
- Approximately 10 per cent of calories should come from protein. Protein is mainly found in meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and beans.
- Approximately 35 per cent of calories should come from fat, which is mainly found in butter, oils, margarine, dairy products and nuts.
- Approximately 55 per cent of calories should come from carbohydrates, which are found in bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, corn and other grain products.

Supplements

  • Folic acid

During the first three months of pregnancy (and preferably before becoming pregnant) a woman needs folic acid. This is one of the B-group vitamins and is also known as vitamin B9. It is important during pregnancy for the creation of the baby's nervous system.

It can help prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida and other congenital malformations such as cleft palate or cleft lip.

Sources of folic acid are barley beans, fruit, green vegetables, orange juice, lentils, peas and rice. It is recommended that all pregnant women take a daily 400 microgram supplement of folic acid a day for two months before conception and three months into their pregnancy. The dosage of the supplement should be larger approximately 5mg per day .

  • Iron

During pregnancy, a woman's body needs more iron than usual to produce all the blood needed to supply nutrition to the placenta. Good sources of iron are green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach, strawberries, muesli and wholemeal bread.
Iron is more easily absorbed if it is taken in conjunction with vitamin C - either as a supplement or in citrus fruit or juice. Tea and coffee can interfere with the body's absorption of iron.

It is often recommended that all pregnant women take an iron supplement every day from the 20th week of pregnancy. This is not necessary if a woman has a good diet and routine blood tests show that she is not anaemic. Iron supplements however may cause constipation.

  • Zinc and calcium

The minerals zinc and calcium are also needed for the development of the embryo. However, it is usually possible to obtain enough zinc and calcium by following a varied diet alone.

Remember, the goal of prenatal vitamins is to supplement your diet, not to replace it. Eating a balanced diet is still the best nutrition for your baby. Prenatal vitamin supplements cannot make up for poor eating habits.

What should be avoided during pregnancy?

  • Vitamin A

Excess amounts may cause damage to the embryo. Foods containing large amounts of vitamin A include liver, and should be eaten on an occasional basis only.

  • Unpasteurized cheeses, blue-veined cheeses

These are not recommended because of the possible risk of transmission of infectious diseases such as Listeria.

Prenatal/Maternal Milk
There are many brands on the shelf that you can consume while pregnant. This milk provides the vitamins needed during pregnancy. If you are already taking in the supplements, always ask your doctor for advice if there’s a need to drink the milk.

Tonics
Chinese herbs have a long history behind them and some people do actually benefit from them. Always consult your doctors before you decide to take them as different women reacts differently to the same kind of herbs due to different health constitute.

Have a wonderful pregnancy.

The Easy Recipe for Homemade Crayons

How often do you find small pieces of crayons lying around in the house?  Too many times perhaps.

Today,  we are telling you what you can do here; recycling those pieces and it can be a great idea for your kids' birthday goody bag items in school too.

What you need are:
1. Crayons (any brands)
2. Silicon trays or muffin trays
3. Oven

You can create either one color crayon or multi coloured ones by mixing everything up. You can also create color tones depending on how you put the pieces of crayons in each slot.

Put it into the oven at about 170 degree Celsius for about 30 minutes for all to melt.

Take it out and let it cool down. Beware of the heat. It should take another hour or so to harden.

Pop it out and the crayons are done.

Simple and such sophisticated crayons created using old crayons.

Psss... it is better that you used different trays for baking crayons and muffins... :)

Now you can start another of your DIY projects.

The benefits of FRUITS & VEGETABLES for children

Do you have to nag at your kids to take their vegetables and sometimes fruits as well? In our busy schedule where everything is speed required, did we give it a thought on why it is important to have a good diet in terms of the health nutritions and their nature? Children like adults need a balance diet. More especially for children since they are growing and their appetite is small and whatever they take in per meal is definitely limited. That's the reason the more we need to pay attention to what they consumed.

Fruits and vegetables benefit kids in many ways, including improved nutrition, decreased obesity risk and better school performance. However, most children don’t get the recommended four or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Only 22 percent of toddlers and preschoolers and only 16 percent of kids ages 6 to 11 meet the requirements. One-half of children’s mealtime plates should be filled with fruits and vegetables in order to reap the benefits.

Improved Nutrition -
Children’s growing bodies require good nutrition, and fruits and vegetables contain a multitude of vitamins, minerals and other healthy compounds. Citrus fruits and strawberries are rich in immune system-boosting vitamin C, carrots are loaded with eye-healthy vitamin A and spinach is a good source of iron, a mineral that helps prevent anemia. Eating fruits and vegetables in a rainbow of colors will provide a wide range of nutrients that help keep kids healthy.

Decreased Obesity-
Fruits and vegetables are high in filling fiber, but low in fat and calories. Encouraging kids to eat fruits and vegetables instead of sugary snacks and fat-laden fast food can help children avoid obesity. According to an USDA study of 3,064 kids ages 5 to 18 linked higher fruit consumption to healthier body weights.

Digestive Health-
High-fiber foods, such as fruits and vegetables, help the digestive system function properly. Constipation in kids can often be eased by eating more high-fiber prunes, apricots, plums, peas, beans and broccoli. As fiber passes through the digestive system, it absorbs water and expands, which triggers regular bowel movements and relieves constipation.

Better School Performance-
Children with healthy diets, including high consumption of fruits and vegetables, performed better on academic tests than children who consumed fewer fruits and vegetables. A number of factors influence the academic performance of kids, but nutrition is an important contributor to better school performance, the report noted.

Tips To increase Their Consumption of Fruits and Vegetables

1. Shop with your kids and let them prepare vegetable and fruit dishes.
2. Sneak pureed vegetables into your children’s favorite foods and stock kid-level shelves in the fridge with baggies of cut-up veggies and fruits and fruit cups.
3. Shop organic if you can. However, the most important thing is for kids to eat fruits and vegetables – organic or not.
4. Eat along with your kids. Do not have a separate type of diet with your children unless you are on medical restrictions.

We all are always guilty of not have enough fruits and vegetables, both adults and children. Thus with the explanation above, let's all incorporate more of these into our diet.

Extras:
1. When you have a buffet next time, do up a rainbow bowl of fruits and a cocktail glass of vegetables (as in pictures). When it looks good, it makes you wanna eat them.

Let us have your ideas and how you keep up on this fruits and vegetable routines. =)

Baby showers... give a surprise!

We came upon this setting and decided to share it.

Ever thinking of concealing your baby's gender just like Queen Kate and only announcing it later? This thought does surface on some parents' mind as they do not wish to disclose their baby gender so soon during their pregnancy. Actually it is very common, isn't it. Some like it hot and some like it cold. Some can't wait to let everyone knows while some likes to play the mystery game.

Well, there's no wrong or right in this and we are sharing an interesting idea on how to announce your baby's gender during baby shower or in local asian context it's call full month celebration.

Why not have the cake reveal the answer? It is pretty, interesting and so fun to look at. Simply pack your fav ingredients like m&ms or marshmallows or skittles or jellies inside de cake and viola, the color tells the gender.

Now you have an idea of a fun baby shower,  and you can start planning one if you are celebrating it soon.  :)

Cultivating a good brushing routine with your child

We all know that we have 2 sets of teeth in our lifehood,  baby teeth and adult teeth. And in the current era, we are taught to teach our children to take care of their teeth from young;  actually at infant stage even before their baby teeths sprouts.  That's because we need to take care of ther gums too.

As they grow up, they need to learn how to brush their teeth and it can be a very difficult task. We have googled some info and find this article very useful and like to share with you.

Check this link:
http://candhnews.wordpress.com/category/brushing-kids-teeth/

From my own experiences, I would recommend these ways and some are also mentioned in the article from the above link.

1. Let your child chooses her own toothbrush, toothpaste and brushing gadgets from the ranges you pre-select for them.
2. Engage brushing with them meaning brushing together.
3. Be an example to stop eating after the bedtime brushing. Even though brushing can be done again, kids are not too keen to do it again.
4. Use products like Flipper and/or Steripod to generate their interest in brushing. For example, these products are cute and colourful and it makes pre and post brushing an interesting affair. The thought of getting your toothbrush out and back into these products are a fun thing for them as they get to touch them. This method is definitely proven with my kids. :).
5. Floss with them too. Don't forget this part.

Hope the above help you and let you have an idea where to interest your children to start paying attention to oral care and oral hygiene.

Steripod is our newly brought in product from USA and it definitely is a hit here. It helps to sanitize your toothbrush while you are not using it.  Believe me, you do not want poop particles to find residence on your toothbrush. That's yucky. And by engaging both oral care and oral hygiene routine,  we can ensure that we stay healthier and prevent ourselves from falling sick offen.

Steripod and Flipper are available at www.eobexclusive.com and www.qoo10.sg.

Ciao! :)))
